Analyst/Researcher with a focus on Ukrainian Security Policy
FOI, the Total Defence Research Institute, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defence and security. FOI is an authority under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, and investigations for total defence, as well as supporting disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. Our operations are conducted primarily on behalf of the Government Offices, the Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). At FOI, we have approximately 1400 employees, over 1000 of whom work directly with research and development. Our competencies span the entire field from natural sciences and technology to social and political sciences.
About the Position
As an analyst/researcher focusing on Ukraine at the Eurasian Security Policy unit within the Defence Analysis Department, you will conduct applied research, analysis, and studies at the request of various clients. The work may also expand to studies of additional countries in Eastern Europe. The unit's primary clients are the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, but we also work on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other actors, mainly within the framework of Swedish total defence. The studies have a policy-relevant focus and are conducted on a scientific basis. The work consists of both written production and oral presentation. The position includes business travel, both internationally and nationally. You will be part of the Eurasian Security Policy unit within the Defence Analysis Department.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
- hold at least a master's degree in political science, humanities, economics, engineering, or another area we deem relevant to our operations.
- be fluent in Swedish and English, with very good knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian (equivalent to level C1-C2).
- have documented experience in analytical work and/or policy-relevant research.
FOI places great emphasis on personal qualities. It is important that you can easily collaborate with others, work well with complex issues, and think strategically.
Meritorious
- experience working with defence and security policy issues focused on Ukraine or other Eastern European countries.
- work experience from Swedish defence authorities.
- doctoral education in a relevant field.
- knowledge of other Eastern European languages.
- documented knowledge of security and defence policy, particularly regarding Ukraine, which we deem relevant to our operations.
- experience from work at research institutes and universities in Sweden or other countries.
